I am a firm believer in old-fashioned musicianship; which could be why my mechanic calls me "Mr. Rock and Roll." Choosing primarily a piano or Hammond organ I can add texture to verses, color to bridges, boost choruses, dig in and improvise when necessary, or occasionally lay back and not play for the sake of the song.

I began taking piano and cello lessons at eight years old; playing in the school orchestra from grades 3-12 and the high school jazz band all four years. At around 15 years old I joined my first rock band and we learned how to play together as a group, improvise, write original songs, and  how to prepare for a live performance.

I grew up in Connecticut, and have also lived in New Hampshire, Colorado, California, and, currently, Tennessee. I have played in multiple bands in each of those states and have toured all over the U.S. and Europe either as full-time, contributing band member or as a temporary hired-gun.

Influences: Chuck Leavell, Ian MClagan, Billy Powell, John Medeski, Gregg Rolie, Herbie Hancock, Pigpen, Keith Godchaux, Brent Mydland, Booker T. Jones, Gregg Allman, Benmont Tench, Garth Hudson, Billy Joel, Jon Lord, Lee Michaels, Ray Charles, Professor Longhair, Art Neville, and Eddie Harsch

Teaching

I stumbled in to teaching while casually showing my cousin how to play "Ode To Joy." A huge bright light went off! I loved it and wanted to do it more. It has been such an unbelievably rewarding experience that has brought me more joy than I would have imagined.

Everybody learns in different ways and likes different music. This is why I personally tailor each lesson to the individual.  As long as they are having fun while playing their instrument everything else will come with time.  Some of  the skills my students learn are how to: read sheet music, use proper fingering, understand music theory, read a chord chart, improvise, and play by ear.

For Hire

Whether you need a keyboardist for an upcoming show or just for a single song on a recording, I can do it. Please don't hesitate to reach out and we can start making music together.
